I am so glad you stopped by. My name is Kerri, and I live in Olathe, Kansas with my husband and sons. I graduated from college with a BS in Apparel Design. After 15 years in the industry, I retired and embarked on a new adventure- motherhood. I started Kerri Kreates in 2019 as a hobby, making earrings that I would like to wear. It has been great therapy while raising teenagers!
The Beginnings of Kerri Kreates...
In December of 2018, my husband and I traveled to Sedona for a long weekend getaway. While waiting in the Phoenix airport to return home, I wandered the shops. I was drawn in by some unique, yet simple, metal earrings. Even though they were more than I wanted to pay, I couldn’t help returning to look at them several times. These simple earrings started me thinking, what could I create out of metal without a lot of tools and expense.
Over the next month, I went on a search for an inexpensive metal. One day on YouTube, I saw a woman cut apart a soda can for some yard art she was making. There it was – the perfect inexpensive metal to apply all my artistic creativity. Experimentation has been my teacher as I explore ways to apply color and texture to create little, wearable, works of art.

My passion is coming up with new designs. One design leads to a new design and on and on it goes. Even in the failures, new designs are born!

The earrings are constructed from 2 layers of the soda can. What you see is the inside of the can. Each earring is carefully crafted and the edges are sanded smooth. Colors and textures are applied using a variety of methods and mediums.

Being light weight is one of the great properties of soda can aluminum. You can go as bold as you dare!
I love how no two pairs of earrings are exactly the same, even of the same design. Each soda can has different markings on the inside (who knew?). Also, because each pair of earrings is made by me one at a time, the application of textures and colors varies slightly. This means that you are purchasing a truly upcycled, one-of-a-kind, wearable work of art!
